Accomodations on this Tour

Many people are interested in the accomodations so I thought I would post some pictures here. The hotel in Cairo was the Mena House. We met our tour director in the beautiful bar. The pyramids loom directly over the garden of this beautiful hotel. From our balcony we could see this view! We had dinner in the hotel dining room and it was interesting to try the Egyptian specialties such as pickled eggplant.
We walked to breakfast through this beautiful garden. Breakfast was included in the tour, and featured a nice buffet, with eggs and sausage and orange juice, but also with felafel, olives, cheese and hibiscus juice.
Every time we walked through the garden to our room we had to stop to view the pyramids! We met our tour director and companions around the pool in the morning.
The first night in Aswan was spent at the Elephantine Island resort. Here we are gathered in the beautiful lobby. Every room in this hotel has a balcony. Since the air conditioning was not working, it was nice to leave the door open and let in some air. In the morning before breakfast we relaxed and watched the Nile roll by.

Then we boarded the Oberoi Shehrayar. There are many many boats plying the Nile for tourists. Since there is limited dock space, they often dock four or five deep, and we got to walk through many of them. The Shehrayar seemed to be a nice middle class boat, fancier than most but not as fancy as a few we saw! The rooms were really quite spacious, featuring twin or queen beds and a nice sitting area. Apparently, two rooms had been combined into one, because most of them had two bathrooms!

There were two nice size windows in the cabin so you didn't miss anything! The top deck was a wonderful place to watch the views on each side of the river. There was a small pool and a small bar, but the Nile itself was the main attraction.

Most meals in the dining room were buffet style, and it was a very nice buffet. Breakfast was always a combination of Egyptian specialties and American standbys. Dinner featured some good fish, pasta to order, and usually some sort of cooked meat and veggies. A few meals were sit-down table service. Here is a sample menu.
There was entertainment each night. The belly dancer was a bit different, but very sensuous in her long tight dress. Lots of the passengers got into the swing of things and joined in the show!

On returning to Cairo, we stayed one night in the Sheraton Heilopolis, which is basically a modern plastic hotel that you can find in any city. I didn't even take any pictures of it.

In general the accomodations were very comfortable and the food was quite acceptable. Nothing was very fancy, but nothing was shoddy or shabby. We were definitely satisfied with the tour!

After completing this tour, with the help of our airport genie we flew from Cairo to Casablanca and began the Globus Morocco tour QM.
