| Reverend William Duncan was born in Perthshire, Scotland, January 7, 1630. He fell a martyr, he was beheaded, during the religious troubles that afflicted Scotland at the time Charles II was restored to the throne of his ancestors. He received his degree in Theology from the Kings College at Aberdeen in 1648. Rev. William Duncan had a grandson, William Duncan III, who was born in Scotland, April 19, 1690, and settled in the colony of Virginia in the year 1719. He was married to Ruth Raleigh February 11, 1722. Daughter of Matthew Raleigh. William Duncan III was 70 years old at the beginning of the Revolution, he furnished provisions for the troops William's will was dated February 24, 1761, probated in 1781. Charles Duncan III, was a soldier in the Revolution in Virginia, Company 6, he was granted land warrant for 100 acres for 3 year service. He married Sarah Browning in 1763, she was the daughter of Francis Browning and Frances Norman. |
