In 1973 we moved to Turlock, CA where Pat did graduate work in Language, Speech and Hearing therapy at Stanislaus State College.
After graduating with a credential in speech and language rehabilitation, Pat started work at Merced County Schools doing the milk run; 1200 miles of travel each month. He served elementary schools in Gustine on the West side of the valley, El NIdo directly south of Merced, and Plainsburg school South and East of Merced. We continued to live in Turlock while Sue finished up her Special Education Credential.
Five years later, Merced Union High School District selected Pat as their second high school speech and language therapist. He is currently serving his 19th year there. This is his 24th year of providing Language Speech and Hearing therapy.
To view some interesting pictures of Pat's father Ken growing up go to the Ken Brown gallery. Kelly, my sister has contributed some interesting scans of Ken on a jersey cow named "Buttercup". Ken is also pictured tasting the California citrus with his sister Betty. Last but not least is a picture of him in his bellyboat ready to go fishing.
Pat has received a number of grants to help teachers and staff at Merced Union High School learn how to use home and school Macintosh computers to do desktop publishing.
Many summers find us visiting relatives in Colorado. Pat's parents own a turn of the century all brick carriage house in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The BrownKorbels,(Pat's sister's family) bought an old family home in Palisade, Colorado, about 12 miles North-East of Grand Junction. This area is known for its great peach orchards, and fishing atop a mesa (a flat top mountain) with many of the lakes at 10,000 elevation or higher.
Sue's father lives inFort Collins. Brother Woody and his family live in nearby Loveland Colorado.
Lindsay, at 12 caught her first 10 brook trout here and released them back into the stream. For interesting links on this subject, check the Fly Fishing page. She still loves to fish. We try to get away to the Sierras at least once each summer to "shake hands" with the trout.
