Inspired by the competitive spirit and the many years of volunteerism, leadership, and
support Ken Schwisow gave to the running community in our area, the Merced
Running Club
Board initiated a scholarship in his honor in October 2000. The scholarship is open
to all students graduating from Merced, Golden Valley, Atwater, and Buhach
Colony High Schools
who plan to attend either a two year or a four year college. The scholarship is
also open to any MRC members who are graduating from any other high school.
Applicants must have participated in cross-country or track and field in high school
and/or be an active member of the Merced Running Club. A completed application with
the supporting material must be submitted to MRC through the individual's school.
Each school may use their own application as long as it conforms to Merced High
School's.
The scholarship award will be for $250, renewable annually up to three times, for a
total of $1000. In order to receive the award after the initial grant, the recipient
must continue to be enrolled at an accredited institution and have a grade point average
of at least 2.5.
All Merced Running Club members are encouraged to support this scholarship by making a
donation when they renew their membership. All donations to this fund will be tax
deductible. MRC awarded four schlolarships in 2007.
