OK, so it's hot.  You live in the San Joaquin Valley, after all!  Grab a big water bottle, a hat, and the sunscreen.  Run early in the morning if you don't like the heat, or wait until 2:00 in the afternoon if you are training for a desert trail run.  Running along the creek or a canal is cooler.  Remember the salt tablets if you are going to be out for a few hours.  There's nothing like a 4-hour run to clear your head!

In Hilmar the Udder Run was a terrific success, with a record number of participants--thank you Michelle Livak!  In July we have the Run for Independence, with the wonderful small town atmosphere of the craft show and parade after the race.  Don't miss it!

In September we have the challenging Amigo de Oro and the Mariposa County Fair.  This is a terrific race, and I recommend you do some hill training over the next couple months in preparation.

The new Merced Running Club jackets are still available, from Superior Threads Embroidery here in Merced.  They are silver with either black stripes and collar or black piping and collar.  The MRC club logo is on the back, with a smaller logo on the chest.  Jerry Haywood has samples of the jackets for you to see and try on for size.  You can find him at the Merced City College track on Tuesday evenings and at the Thursday night runs.  Call Jerry at 209-358-9341 or 209-617-6651 for questions or to place an order.  You can get your name embroidered on the front if you like.

Go Long,

Dave Simenson

Weekly Schedule

topbul2a.gif (208 bytes)

Tuesday nights at the Merced College track: From 5:30-7:15 p.m., jog, do sprints or stairs, or walk in a safe and lighted (in the winter) environment.
topbul2a.gif (208 bytes) Thursday Night Runs:
Fall Fun Runs are Sep 10 through Oct 29, 2009.  Distances are 1-mile, 2-mile and 3-mile.  Start time is 6:00 p.m. sharp every Thursday, at Rahilly Park.  Note the new location!  The Fall Fun Runs are no longer at Applegate Park, due to car traffic on the streets.

For the rest of the year: meet at the corner of Tuscany Ave. and Reggio Ct. in Merced at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays for a 1-2 mile warm-up, a 3-mile time trial, and a cool-down. Whether you run sub-7:00 or sub-11:00, this is the place to be!  During hot weather we run along Bear Creek in the shade.
