I called Walt Jensen at Upgrades & More, but he said that his ZOOM was having the same problem. I got hold of ZOOM tech support on the phone on Saturday and got the answer. It's so simple, it's stupid. There is some disagreement about what AT Commands are and are not required for K56flex negotiations. Rockwell says that ATS202=32 is not required in firmware, Lucent says that it is. The result, is that Rockwell based modems fail to negotiate with your new Lucent box. The fix? Easier than you think. In Windows 95b, go to Control Panel, Modems (General), Properties (Connection), Advanced, and type in the missing AT Command in the Extra settings Box that Microsoft thoughtfully provided. Just so you know, the fix was IMMEDIATE. The next time I logged on to 357-0390 the number did not hang up, logged me on automatically, and gave me a 40K connect! I tried downloading an upgrade for Cakewalk Pro Audio 6.0, which is a healthy size download at about 3.8 meg. Instead of my usual 2.3 to 2.5K stream, I got a very nice 3.8 to 4.2K stream. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon! I am going to tell my friends about this, but you may want to get this out to everybody ASAP. It makes your new Lucent box run like crazy, and cuts through a lot of frustration. Hope this was worth your time, Lenny
